The official introduction

I make complicated things look suspiciously easy.

Hi, I’m Jenica Bates, founder of Jenica of All Trades (JOAT).

Sometimes that means turning a last-minute event spiral into an experience that looks like it took six months to plan. Sometimes it means untangling a calendar, finding the person nobody else could find, or handling the twelve tiny things quietly holding someone’s entire week hostage.

Think of me as a professional fixer, an extra brain, and the person you call when “I don’t even know where to start” has officially stopped being cute.

You can’t clone yourself, but you can hire me. Close enough!

The unofficial explanation

I was probably always going to end up doing this.

The truth is, I am genuinely wired for this work. I have severe ADHD, I’m one of eight children, and I’m the oldest daughter. If you are also an oldest daughter, I probably do not need to explain anything else.

My brain thrives on variety. No two days look the same, and that is exactly what keeps me interested. One minute I’m orchestrating an event, managing travel, or solving a problem nobody planned for. The next, I’m fixing a calendar that has quietly become everyone’s enemy.

And honestly, I care about those supposedly boring tasks just as much. A calendar that finally works can change how an entire family moves through the week. An appointment booked, vendor confirmed, or loose end closed may look tiny from the outside, but when it has been living in someone’s head for three weeks, it is not tiny anymore.

That is the part I love. The moment someone realizes the thing taking up space in their brain is no longer theirs to carry.

The beginning

The $2.75 that changed everything.

Back in 2015, I was 18, fresh out of high school, and making $7.25 an hour at a sandwich shop. No tips. This was before an iPad got spun around for absolutely everything, so $7.25 meant exactly $7.25.

Then an old friend mentioned making $10 an hour dog sitting and potentially babysitting. I remember thinking, excuse me? I had grown up helping care for siblings, completed babysitting training, held certifications, had real experience with children, and knew people who could credibly vouch for me.

So I looked at Care.com and noticed the gap. Very few local profiles had meaningful reviews. I asked every appropriate person who could honestly speak to my experience to leave one. Within a week, I was appearing at the top of local results and had become one of the most-reviewed profiles in the area.

A heart surgeon reached out and hired me to care for his two children. After the first month, he reviewed my profile too. That review gave the work the kind of credibility that changed everything.

I did not know it yet, but that was the first version of how my brain still works today: notice what is missing, understand what matters, build the strongest solution, and follow it all the way through.

Consider it handled

The work did not begin with a tidy title. It began with the open loops.

Off the clock, allegedly

A few completely unserious facts that explain a lot.

The unofficial résumé: motherhood, family logistics, unreasonable research habits, strong opinions about presentation, and an absolute refusal to confuse doing everything with doing everything well.

The actual point

You do not need another copy of yourself. You need the right support.

I built JOAT for people who are exceptionally capable but no longer interested in being personally responsible for every moving part of their lives.

You do not need to prove you can carry everything. You need the right person to take something off your plate and actually follow it through.
